The Drying Deck

You walk into your room at the ryokan and find the owner's daughter climbing out of your window. The family's drying deck is reached only through it, guests are not allowed on it, and her mother sells ice at the stall in the lane right below. On the deck she teaches you her father's game: call the colour of the next burst, and the loser does what the winner says.
